West Midlands Women's Voice
Create a social media campaign to fill the room at a free event celebrating International Women’s Day.
The event was a day of panel discussions and conversations with remarkable women who are changing the cultural or societal landscape of the West Midlands through their achievements as individuals or part of a group - including a key note conversation with notable women’s rights campaigner, Dr Helen Pankhurst. Dr Pankhurst is also a direct descendent of Emmeline Pankhurst, who was a pivotal figure in the Women’s Suffrage movement which helped deliver the vote for women.
It took place at The Custard Factory in Birmingham on Wednesday 6th March 2019. The room was full.
What DID WE DO?
We created The Trailblazers.
#Trailblazers was a 24-day social campaign which we designed to shine a light on inspiring women who have changed the World, yet for whatever reason have not received the recognition they deserve in mainstream education and wider society.
As a society, we have a responsibility to nurture the imaginations and dreams of all young people and by educating our community on some of the achievements of fantastic women throughout history, we hoped to create a call-to-action empowering women to teach their children about The Trailblazers as examples of women who overcame incredible barriers to achieve things that women simply hadn’t accomplished before.
That was everything from introducing the woman who became the first billionaire to lose that status due to giving so much money to charity, all the way through to the woman who invented the liferaft and therefore saved millions of lives, yet very few people have heard of.
Each post also included a call-to-action to ensure the stories of inspiring women are always told and a link to sign-up for the event in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The social campaign achieved an online reach of more than 400,000 during the 24-days across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and engaged with the likes of Michelle Mone, Dr Helen Pankhurst and Dame Ellen MacArthur.
The event was oversubscribed and the room was full on the day.
